Things to Look for Before opting for Your Next Travel Insurance

TRAVEL INSURANCE

Behind every successful trip, there is a planning story that no one except the traveller knows. Whether you travel solo or in a group, there are a lot of things that are to be considered. This is especially true when you are travelling to a foreign destination; it requires extensive planning. While packing, booking your tickets, and a lot more are part of this planning, so is having international travel insurance. Often neglected by travellers, travel insurance is your friend in an unknown land. It keeps you covered against any mishaps that occur during your on-going trip and offers you with the financial protection to let you have a tension-free vacation.

That being said, there are people who buy trip insurance but are unhappy with the plans or coverage that are offered. While you can find exclusively curated plans by some of the most trusted insurance providers in India, there are a few factors that you must consider beforehand. Here are the things to look out for: -

1.Country-Specific Insurance

Some insurance providers offer country-specific insurance plans. Like, if you are travelling to a Schengen country, you can exclusively opt for Schengen travel insurance. Similarly, there are a lot of country-wise plans that insurance providers have come up with to give you the ease of selecting the best one. So, look out for such travel insurance plans in case you don’t want to opt for a standard travel insurance policy.

2.Coverage for Medical Expenses

One of the most important factors to look out for is the coverage of medical expenses. Although most of the insurance providers offer a provision of medical expenses, select the one that offers the maximum coverage. Check for a travel health insurance plan that offers in-patient and out-patient medical treatment, hospitalization cover, and whether it will cover expenses if you meet with an accident. Also, check if the insurance covers life-threatening situations that may occur due to a traveller’s pre-existing ailments if any.

3.Cover for Loss of Check-in Luggage

Travelling to a new country means shopping for your loved ones. But, when you lose your luggage, it becomes disheartening, doesn’t it? So, another point of coverage to look out for is whether the travel insurance policy offers coverage in case you lose the check-in luggage. Losing of check-in luggage can occur due to the negligence of airport authorities at times, but that doesn’t change the fact that the loss is still yours. Another thing that it should cover is the loss of travel documents like your passport. So, make sure that you select the insurance plan that takes care of the loss incurred due to such uncertainties.

Other than these, also check whether the international travel insurance plan offers flight cancellation or trip delay cover. However, this would only apply if the cancellation is from the flight carrier’s end that too for more than 12 consecutive hours.
