5 Things to Do Before Putting in Your Travel Insurance Claim

INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL INSURANCE

Travel Insurance: A Safety Net

Nothing gets better than being able to take a break from regular life and responsibilities to head out to some beautiful destination for a vacation. With international travel insurance in place, you can travel without any worries. For what it offers, travel insurance is truly a boon especially for frequent travelers as it offers complete peace of mind. Even if you face some eventuality during your trip, travel insurance will be there to make sure you get through it without any trouble.

As much as you would love to not have to put in a claim, knowledge about how to do the same would not go amiss. In case you ever need to put in a claim for your travel insurance health coverage, lost baggage coverage, or something else, then here are the important things to keep in mind:

1.Photograph the Valuables That You are Travelling With

Take pictures of all the insured valuables that you will be taking with you on your trip and mail a copy of the same to a secure email address that you can easily access. In case you lose your baggage, or if something is stolen, you will have ample proof to show, which will make your claim process a lot easier.

2.File a Police Report

If something is stolen while you are on your vacation, under all travel insurance claim processes, you are required to report the matter to the local police station. This must be done within 24 hours of the incident occurring. Many travel insurance companies reject claims if the incident has not been reported in due time. Moreover, you will be required to furnish proof of the same. So, make sure that if anything untoward happens, report it!

3. Keep Important Information at Hand

It is very important that you keep the emergency contact details of your insurer and the policy number of your international travel insurance handy. It would be a good idea to make several copies of the same and stick them in your handbag or cabin luggage. Before actually going through the claim filing process, you are required to intimate your insurer about the incident within a stipulated time period. This is when this information will be quite useful.

4. Keep Medical Bills Safe

If you undergo a minor medical treatment while on your trip, you should save your medical bills and receipts carefully, so you can put in a reimbursement claim under your travel health insurance. If, however, you face some major medical emergency, you will have to get in touch with your insurer as soon as possible to inform them about the issue and the treatment prescribed.

5. Get Written Confirmation for Cancellations

If your flight is canceled or delayed and you are eligible for coverage for the same, make sure you get a written confirmation of the situation. Most international travel insurance claim processes require you to furnish a duly signed confirmation from the airline or tour operator. So, make sure you get this confirmation letter before you leave the airport!
